Pastiglie Valdolci
In fondo, chi aveva voglia

Valdolci
pastilles, even if produced by Pastival (the same as Pastiglie Valda),
were little appreciated, both in terms of sales and success with the
public. Yet we must remember them anyway.
It was the 1950s, and the economic boom was also appearing in Italy. In this period there was an increase in the "variations on the theme" of famous drugs. "With vitamin C", "without strychnine", "enriched with barbiturates", and many other commercial claims, began to crowd the boxes of medicines born in the first half of the twentieth century, a symptom of consumers who were no longer satisfied, and could afford the more expensive product, but better suited to their needs.
Valdolci pads were born, in fact, for "the delicate throats and palates of children and women" (cit. The back of the box), so that they could fight the dry throat, facilitate breathing, clean the breath and mitigate the effects of tobacco.
Certainly targeting the product for smoking children or for women who do not even hold a drop of pine or a sparkling candy, is not that great commercial idea, but the reasons why the Valdolci pads did not break through is much more complex.
Despite the goodness of the product, as the candy was totally composed of plant and balsamic extracts of natural origin, the public of the fifties had discovered that with antibiotics the sore throat passed in a day, and turned with confidence to the market of "Super-drug" that was being born at that time. After all, who wanted to heal naturally when Borocillin healed you with a tablet?
The box measures 7 cm in diameter x 2.4 cm in height and dates back to the 1950s / 1960s. The box does not recommend special doses. Unfortunately, the list of ingredients has been lost, as it is present only on the paper strip that sealed the box. If you have some in your collection and want to send me the list of ingredients, you would do me a huge favor.
